History Of The Farm
Transport yourself back in time to the early 1900s and discover the fascinating history of our family-run farm. In 1912, my grandfather seized the opportunity to purchase the farm when the ‘Rotherwas Estate’ was sold, and it has remained in our family ever since. But our family’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. During the farming depression of the 1930s, my grandfather tragically passed away in 1935. With immense resilience and determination, my young uncle and father took on the responsibility of running the farm at the tender ages of only nineteen and seventeen.
The challenges didn’t stop there. With the threat of the Second World War looming, the farm faced the risk of being ploughed up. To protect our family’s legacy and the farm’s land, my father was conscripted into the army and served in North Africa, the Middle East, and Italy. Our family’s love for this land runs deep, and we’re proud to continue the legacy and hard work of our ancestors. The Name “Sink Green”
Probably comes from the fact that hundreds of years ago all the ground above the house was woodland and this would have been a green floodplain, with very few trees or hedges until the enclosure acts of the 18th and 19th centuries. Basically a green hollow.
